Karnataka Minister MB Patil Clarifies Land Confusion in Vijayapura

On October 26, Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries, MB Patil, addressed a press conference to clarify confusion regarding land in Honavada, Tikota taluk of Vijayapura district. He explained that a gazette error led to the misunderstanding that 1,200 acres were designated as Waqf property. In reality, only 11 acres are Waqf property, including a burial ground and religious structures.

Patil stated that the error originated from gazette notifications issued in 1974, 1978, and 2016, where the name “Honavada” was mistakenly added. He assured that no farmer-owned land would be reclassified as Waqf property and urged BJP leaders not to politicize the issue.

Earlier, BJP leader Tejasvi Surya accused the Waqf Board of claiming over 15,000 acres in Vijayapura district, alleging that Congress Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan instructed officials to register lands for the Waqf Board. Surya promised to address these issues in the upcoming Parliament session.
