Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 15: Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge announced that the state has been a leader in India’s digital revolution, with Global Capability Centres (GCCs) driving its growth. The Government of Karnataka and Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), in collaboration with ANSR, launched the Karnataka GCC Landscape Report.

Minister Kharge emphasized the state’s strategic interventions to create a resilient business ecosystem for GCCs. He mentioned the upcoming first GCC Policy in India to support new GCC operations in Karnataka. The report provides insights into the state’s thriving GCC ecosystem, its growth, and future potential.

The event at Vidhana Soudha gathered top GCC leaders and industry veterans to discuss strategies for enhancing Karnataka’s status as a premier GCC destination. The state has introduced incentives and policies to support GCC setups in Bengaluru and emerging tech clusters like Mysuru, Hubbali, and Mangaluru.

Lalit Ahuja, Founder & CEO of ANSR, highlighted Karnataka’s commitment to innovation and talent development, making it an ideal location for enterprises. Dr. Ekroop Caur, Secretary of the Department of Electronics, IT, BT, noted Karnataka’s history of industry-focused policies and the upcoming GCC policy to maintain its leading position.

Prashanth Prakash, Partner at Accel Partners and Chairman of Karnataka Start-up Vision Group, called Karnataka the start-up capital of India, complementing its role in the GCC ecosystem. BV Naidu, Chairman of KDEM, shared that regions beyond Bengaluru, like Mangaluru, Mysuru, and Hubballi-Belagavi-Dharwad, are also attracting GCCs.

The report indicates that Bengaluru remains a hotspot for GCCs, startups, and platform engineering, with 25% of India’s digital talent. It also states that 60% of Forbes Global 2000 companies with GCCs in India have centers in Bengaluru. Karnataka hosts approximately 570 GCCs and leads the GCC talent market. The state is also home to 26,000+ active startups, with over 50% being tech startups. Bengaluru is the Unicorn capital of India, with around 40% of Unicorns located in the city.
