Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the gate of Tungabhadra Dam was damaged and repair work is underway. Two firms have been approached to fix the gate. The damage occurred at 10:30, and Shivakumar was informed at 11:30 pm. Immediate actions were taken to ensure the dam’s safety, including releasing water. The dam is managed by the central government and Andhra Pradesh, and both have been consulted.

Shivakumar stated that the repair work would be completed within three to four days. He also formed a committee to oversee the safety of all dams in Karnataka. Heavy rains have affected low-lying areas and parts of Bengaluru, prompting the clearance of construction dumps.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah plans to visit the Tungabhadra Dam and hold a meeting with officials to address the issue. The damage occurred when one of the crest gates was washed away after its chain link snapped.
