Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Faces MUDA Scam Inquiry Amid Political Tensions
The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, is under scrutiny as the Lokayukta investigates the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam. The inquiry follows a court order to file an FIR regarding alleged illegal allotment of 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to his wife, Parvathi. Siddaramaiah appeared before the Lokayukta Police in Mysuru, asserting that the Lokayukta is an independent agency like the CBI and that he has answered all questions posed to him.
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge defended Siddaramaiah, questioning why the CM should resign when the state BJP president, facing an ED case, has not resigned. Kharge labeled the accusations as politically motivated, emphasizing Siddaramaiah’s compliance with legal procedures.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also filed a money laundering case against Siddaramaiah and others, applying the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The FIR names Siddaramaiah, his wife, his brother-in-law, and another individual involved in the land transaction.
Despite BJP’s demands for his resignation, Siddaramaiah denies the allegations, claiming political persecution. The Karnataka High Court has issued notices to Siddaramaiah and others, seeking details of the investigation by November 25, with further hearings scheduled for November 26.
