Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Saturday paid his last respects to CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, who passed away recently in New Delhi. Sibal stated that Yechury was a selfless leader who dedicated his life to others. He said, “Only people like Sitaram Yechury gave their lives for other people and not for themselves. He knew he would never come to power.”

Sibal also mentioned that Yechury was a dear friend and a mesmerizing presence in the Parliament. He added, “The breadth of knowledge, the empathy for the ordinary people that he had is present in very few people. His demise is a very big loss for the nation.”

Earlier, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi paid tribute to Yechury at the CPI office. Other Congress leaders like Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken, and Rajeev Shukla, along with several CPI(M) leaders and workers, also paid their last respects.

Yechury’s mortal remains were taken to the CPI(M) office from his residence in Vasant Kunj. He passed away on September 12 at AIIMS Hospital after suffering from a respiratory tract infection.

Kerala Minister P Rajeev said, “The sad demise of Sitaram Yechury has created a big vacuum in national politics. He was the most acceptable person in the party and everyone came to him to make decisions on every issue. It is a big loss to the party, the left, and the country.”

On Friday, Union Minister and BJP national President JP Nadda paid floral tribute to Yechury at his residence. Nadda remembered Yechury for maintaining relationships with those whose views differed from his own.
