Kamran Akmal Urges PCB to Learn Professionalism from BCCI After Series of Defeats

Former cricketer Kamran Akmal has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its lack of professionalism, suggesting they should learn from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Akmal’s comments came after Pakistan’s recent Test series defeat against Bangladesh.

India secured a 280-run victory against Bangladesh in Chennai, while Pakistan faced a 2-0 series whitewash by the same team. Akmal stated, “PCB should learn from BCCI, their professionalism, their team, selector, captain, and coaches. These are the things that make a team number one and dominate the world.”

Pakistan’s cricket team has faced several setbacks in recent years. In 2022, they lost the Asia Cup final to Sri Lanka and were knocked out in the Super 4 stage in the next edition. They also crashed out of the ODI World Cup 2023 in the group stage. Following these defeats, Babar Azam stepped down as captain, and Shaheen Shah Afridi replaced him. However, Babar was later reinstated as the white-ball skipper, while Shan Masood retained the Test captaincy.

Pakistan also endured a Test series whitewash in Australia and losses to Ireland and England in T20I matches. In the T20 World Cup, they were eliminated after losing to the USA in a Super Over and to India in the group stage.

In response to these challenges, PCB announced a high-level Connection Camp to establish a clear and unified vision for the future of Pakistan cricket. The camp will be attended by nine Pakistan cricketers, including Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shan Masood. Pakistan’s red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie, white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten, assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, and High Performance specialist David Reid will also be present.
