New Delhi, India – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, along with his wife and party leader Kalpana Soren, met senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in the national capital. Soren shared on ‘X’ that he met with the respected Congress leader.

The Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) are allies in the INDIA bloc and contested the Lok Sabha elections together. After the meeting, Soren told reporters that discussions on the upcoming state assembly elections, which will elect 81 legislators, would continue.

Soren mentioned that he hadn’t met Sonia Gandhi since his release from jail and wanted to discuss the Jharkhand Assembly elections. He also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), claiming it has ‘humiliated’ the judiciary. Soren expressed hope that Kejriwal would be granted bail soon.

Earlier this month, Hemant Soren was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand, replacing Champai Soren, who resigned after five months in office. Hemant Soren was released from Birsa Munda Jail on June 28 after nearly five months, following bail from the Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. He had resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest on January 31.
