Jasprit Bumrah Hints at Mohammed Shami's Possible Return for Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia

In Perth, Australia, India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah has hinted at the possibility of experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami joining the team for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, provided everything goes well. Shami, who was not initially included in India's squad for the series, has been a major topic of discussion as the five-match Test series approaches.

After playing in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, the 34-year-old Shami spent a year away from international cricket. He made a strong comeback in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal, impressing many with his fast bowling against Madhya Pradesh. His performance has led former cricket stars to advocate for his inclusion in India's pace attack in Australia.

India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has been monitoring Shami's progress closely, especially after witnessing his competitive spirit during India's home Tests against New Zealand. Bumrah acknowledged Shami's significance in India's Test team and mentioned the possibility of him traveling to Australia for the challenging series.

"Shami has been an integral part, and the management is keeping a close eye. If everything goes well, you might see him here as well," Bumrah stated before the first Test in Perth.

Reports have suggested that Shami might travel to Australia to help India retain the title. In his return to competitive cricket, Shami showcased his impressive pace in the Ranji Trophy, achieving match figures of 7/57 and helping Bengal secure a victory.
