Jammu and Kashmir Elections: National Conference and Congress Alliance Lead
As the vote counting continues in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission of India has reported that the alliance between the Jammu Kashmir National Conference and Congress is leading with 47 seats. This information was released at 10:15 AM. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading in 28 seats. The election results will determine the future of several former ministers, including Omar Abdullah and Ravinder Raina.
Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed confidence in the alliance’s position and urged the BJP to maintain transparency. He stated, “We have the hope that we will win. The decision made by the voters of J&K, we will get to know by today afternoon. There should be transparency…if people’s mandate is against BJP, they shouldn’t pull off any tricks…we did alliance so we can win and we are hoping to win.”
In Jammu, TS Tony, a Congress candidate from the Bahu Assembly seat, claimed that the Congress-NC alliance is poised to form the government with a two-thirds majority. He criticized the BJP, accusing them of turning the “city of temples” into a “city of liquors” and expressed frustration over issues like the liquor and land mafia.
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress, part of the INDIA alliance, contested the elections together, while the PDP and BJP ran independently. The elections for the 90 constituencies took place in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1.
