Jaishankar Strengthens India-Australia Ties
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on a five-day visit to Australia, where he is engaging with various leaders to bolster India-Australia relations. On November 7, he met with CEOs and business leaders in Sydney, discussing ways to enhance business and investment connections between the two countries. Jaishankar emphasized India’s advancements in digital, infrastructure, manufacturing, and skilling sectors, highlighting the natural complementarities between India and Australia.
During his visit, Jaishankar also interacted with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and participated in the ‘Raisina Down Under’ event, an extension of India’s Raisina Dialogue. He inaugurated a new Indian consulate in Brisbane, marking it as a significant milestone in India-Australia relations. Jaishankar praised the Indian diaspora in Australia, describing them as a “living bridge” between the two nations, and acknowledged their contributions across various sectors.
In Canberra, Jaishankar met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who expressed appreciation for the deepening India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Jaishankar also engaged with the Australia-India Parliamentary Friendship Group and met New Zealand’s Deputy PM Winston Peters to discuss education, technology, and people-to-people ties.
