External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth inaugurated India’s first overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra in Mauritius. The center aims to provide affordable, Made-in-India medicines to enhance public healthcare.

Jaishankar expressed his delight, stating, “This Aushadi Kendra is the delivery of the promise made by PM Narendra Modi earlier this year.” He added that the health partnership project would supply cost-effective medicines to improve public healthcare and well-being.

Mediclinic Project at Grand Bois

Earlier, Jaishankar inaugurated the Mediclinic project at Grand Bois, which was made with Indian grant assistance. This initiative will provide secondary healthcare for 16,000 people in the Grand Bois area. Jaishankar described it as the ‘newest expression of friendship’ between the two nations.

He emphasized the importance of health, stating, “Health is a priority, and all of us have become health conscious. Every government has a duty to deliver, and being part of such an important delivery event is a matter of great satisfaction.”

India’s Commitment to Mauritius

Jaishankar highlighted other projects India has undertaken in Mauritius, describing them as expressions of the strong relationship between the two countries. He noted that under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is committed to people-centric policies that make a significant difference to communities.

Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius for a two-day official visit and thanked Mauritius Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin for his warm welcome. He looked forward to productive engagements to further strengthen the special relationship between India and Mauritius.
