Jagdambika Pal to Meet Farmers in Karnataka Over Waqf Land Controversy
On November 7, Jagdambika Pal, the Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Amendment Bill, will visit Bijapur and Hubballi in Karnataka. This visit is in response to the ongoing controversy regarding farmers’ land being marked as Waqf land. Many BJP leaders, including MP Tejasvi Surya, have raised concerns and are protesting in these areas.
Tejasvi Surya expressed gratitude to Jagdambika Pal for agreeing to visit and interact with affected farmers, farmer organizations, and religious groups. The petitions collected will be presented to the JPC for further consideration.
Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah decided to retract all notices related to Waqf land issues, acknowledging that they were mistakenly issued. Jagdambika Pal commented on this decision, stating that it was an admission of error by the government.
The BJP has accused the government of adding Waqf’s name to land records without proper notice, affecting 44 properties in Vijayapura district. Many farmers are worried about losing their ancestral lands due to these changes. In response, CM Siddaramaiah has instructed officials to stop issuing notices and to withdraw those already sent to farmers.
