Israel's Operation Iron Wall: Airstrikes and Raids in Northern Samaria
Israel has expanded its counterterrorism operation in northern Samaria, now in its 13th day. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted three airstrikes overnight targeting terrorists, including a strike in Qabatiya that hit a vehicle carrying terrorists planning an imminent attack. Among the two terrorists killed was Abd al-Hadi Kamil, recently released from prison. Aerial footage showed secondary explosions, indicating explosives were present.
Additional airstrikes targeted terror cells in Jenin, and raids in the Palestinian village of Tamun led to the seizure of weapons, including an M-16 rifle. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a warning to Zakaria Zubeidi, a high-profile terrorist released recently, emphasizing zero tolerance for terrorism support.
Zubeidi, a former commander of Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, was involved in several attacks, including a 2002 attack on a Likud polling center and a 2004 bombing in Tel Aviv. He was among 110 terrorists released in exchange for Israeli hostages. Zubeidi is popular among Palestinians for evading Israeli assassination attempts.
The IDF's "Operation Iron Wall," launched on January 21, follows the Palestinian Authority's failed crackdown in the Jenin refugee camp. The operation has expanded to Tulkarem, resulting in the arrest of dozens of terrorists and the discovery of weapons and bomb-making labs. Previous operations in Jenin uncovered a tunnel shaft, rocket launcher, and large amounts of weapons.
