The Fund for the Preservation of Open Spaces, led by Yankee Quint, Director of the Israel Land Authority, has announced a significant allocation of funds. Approximately 400 million Shekels (USD 109 million) will be directed towards 165 environmental projects and improving public access to nature sites. Of this, around 150 million Shekels (USD 41 million) is earmarked for rehabilitating areas affected by war.
The fund received 432 applications, totaling about 1.2 billion Shekels (USD 326 million). Local authorities submitted 294 applications, with 60 from minority authorities and 12 from city associations. The fund has been active for a decade, focusing on preserving open spaces outside urban areas, supporting biodiversity, and enhancing parks and leisure areas.
Collaborating with government ministries, municipal bodies, and other organizations, the fund aims to support projects that align with its goals of environmental preservation and development.
Shekels are the currency used in Israel, just like we use Rupees in India.
These are projects aimed at protecting nature and the environment, like planting trees or cleaning rivers.
