Israel's New Campaign for Special Emergency Rooms for Sexual Assault Victims
The Ministry of Health in Israel has launched a campaign to raise awareness about special emergency rooms dedicated to victims of sexual assault. This initiative follows extensive work by the department for the treatment of domestic violence and sexual abuse within the Ministry. The campaign, costing NIS 1 million, features an infographic video and banners explaining the purpose of these acute rooms.
These specialized emergency rooms are separate from regular ones and are staffed by professionals trained to support sexual assault victims. They provide both physical and mental care, free of charge, without the need for a doctor's referral. The Ministry emphasizes the importance of testing for sexually transmitted diseases promptly after an assault.
Minors aged 14 and above can access these services without a parent or guardian, though an escort is recommended. Currently, there are 11 such emergency rooms across Israel, located in hospitals including Yoseftal in Eilat, Soroka in Be'er Sheva, and Ichilov in Tel Aviv, among others.
