On Monday, Israel's Education Ministry announced a new national plan to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the education system. This initiative aims to transform teaching and learning by providing students and educators with advanced AI tools and training.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "We are connecting the education system with leading high-tech companies to train Israeli teachers and children in artificial intelligence." The goal is to equip the next generation with the skills needed for the future.
The initiative includes an AI curriculum for students in grades 4-12, ensuring exposure to AI concepts. Around 3,000 mentors from over 400 high-tech companies, including Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Nvidia, will assist schools in implementing AI technologies.
A large-scale training program will reach approximately 70,000 educators, focusing on integrating AI into lesson planning and personalized learning strategies. Meir Shimoni, the Education Ministry's Director General, highlighted the importance of preserving human value in education while using AI as a supportive tool.
Five new AI tools will be introduced, including "Q," a coaching bot, and "Bina," based on Google Gemini. "Magic School" will aid in lesson planning, and an AI-integrated version of "Minecraft" will engage younger students.
To promote AI literacy, national events and competitions will be held throughout February, including a central event on February 27 hosted by TV personality Itay Herman. Enrichment webinars will also be available for teachers.
Meirav Zarbiv, Director of the Innovation and Technology Administration, stated, "We are translating vision into reality," as teachers undergo training and innovative tools are implemented in classrooms.
