Israeli President Isaac Herzog Defends Strikes on Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions

Tel Aviv [Israel], August 25: Israeli President Isaac Herzog stated that Israel’s strikes on Lebanon were a demonstration of the country’s right to self-defense. He expressed gratitude to the Israeli military for their service.

Herzog’s comments followed pre-emptive strikes by the Israeli military on what they identified as ‘terror targets’ in Lebanon, accusing Hezbollah of preparing to fire rockets at Israel. Hezbollah denied these allegations and responded with their own strikes, calling them a ‘complete success.’

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), around 100 Israeli Air Force fighter jets targeted and destroyed thousands of Hezbollah rocket launcher barrels aimed at northern and central Israel. The IDF emphasized their commitment to defending Israeli civilians.

In response to the escalating tensions, Israel declared a 48-hour emergency, allowing the IDF Home Front Command to issue restrictions to protect civilians. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced the emergency, which could be extended by cabinet ministers.

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an IDF spokesperson, warned Lebanese citizens in southern Lebanon of potential Israeli attacks in retaliation to Hezbollah’s actions. He urged them to stay away from areas where Hezbollah operates.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s determination to protect itself, stating that any attack on Israel would be met with force. He confirmed that the IDF had destroyed thousands of rockets aimed at northern Israel.
