Israeli Minister Gideon Sa'ar Supports Trump's Sanctions on ICC
In Tel Aviv, Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa'ar expressed his support for US President Donald Trump's executive order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC). Sa'ar criticized the ICC for its actions against Israeli leaders, describing the court's pursuit of elected officials as "aggressive." He emphasized that both Israel and the US are not members of the ICC, asserting that they are "thriving democracies" with militaries adhering to international law.
Sa'ar shared his views on social media, stating, "I strongly commend President Trump's executive order imposing sanctions on the so-called 'international criminal court.' The ICC aggressively pursues the elected leaders of Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East." He further added that the ICC has no jurisdiction over Israel and the US, as they are not parties to the Rome Statute.
Meanwhile, Agnes Callamard, Amnesty International's Secretary General, criticized the executive order, stating that it sends a message that Israel is above the law and undermines international justice. She described the sanctions as a "brutal step" that threatens global rules and justice for all.
