In preparation for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Israel's Tax Authority has taken steps to assist Holocaust survivors in claiming their entitled tax benefits. The Tax Authority worked with the Holocaust Survivors' Rights Authority to reach out to survivors who qualify for tax benefits due to medical disabilities under the Nazi Persecution Disabled Persons Law or the Nazi War Disabled Persons Law.
Many survivors had not exercised their rights to these benefits. As part of a recent pilot program, tax refund applications from 22 survivors were processed. These survivors received tax refunds totaling approximately 960,000 Shekels (USD 266,000).
Representatives from the Holocaust Survivors' Rights Authority helped the survivors fill out the necessary forms and submitted them through a streamlined process to the Kfar Saba Tax Assessor's Office. Since 2020, the Tax Authority has been working to locate and assist survivors in claiming their tax benefits.
