Interim Bail Granted to Rau’s IAS Study Circle CEO and Coordinator in Delhi Tragedy Case

The Rouse Avenue court on Monday granted interim bail to Abhishek Gupta, CEO of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, and coordinator Deshpal Singh until December 7. The pair were arrested after three civil service aspirants drowned in the basement of their coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, on July 27.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna granted the interim bail, requiring both accused to furnish a bail bond of Rs one lakh and two sureties each. Additionally, the court directed Abhishek Gupta to deposit Rs 2.5 crore with the Red Cross by November 30.

Previously, the Delhi High Court had granted interim bail to four co-owners of the basement linked to the deaths, directing them to deposit Rs 5 crore to the Red Cross. The High Court also requested the Delhi Lieutenant Governor to form a committee to ensure no coaching centers operate in basements without proper sanction across Delhi.

The court had asked the CBI to submit a status report on the primary causes of waterlogging in the area and the rainfall data from that day. The trial court had denied bail to the four co-owners, citing their liability for allowing the basement to be used as a coaching institute illegally.
