India’s Space Success: S Jaishankar Congratulates ISRO on EOS-08 Launch

New Delhi, August 16: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the successful launch of the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS)-08 using the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV)-D3. He praised the achievement for opening new possibilities for low-cost space missions and international collaboration.

ISRO’s Achievement

The ISRO launched the EOS-08 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The SSLV-D3 successfully placed the satellite into orbit, marking the completion of ISRO’s SSLV Development Project. This success paves the way for the Indian industry and NSIL India to produce SSLVs for commercial missions.

Mission Details

The six-and-a-half-hour countdown for the launch began at 2.47 am. The EOS-08 mission aims to design and develop a microsatellite with new technologies for future satellites. The satellite carries three payloads: the Electro-Optical Infrared Payload (EOIR), the Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry Payload (GNSS-R), and the SiC UV Dosimeter.

Payload Functions

The EOIR captures images in infrared bands for surveillance, disaster monitoring, and environmental observation. The GNSS-R payload helps in ocean surface wind analysis, soil moisture assessment, and flood detection. The satellite operates in a Circular Low Earth Orbit at an altitude of 475 km and has a mission life of one year.

Technological Advancements

EOS-08 features an Integrated Avionics system, combining multiple functions into a single unit. It includes a structural panel with an embedded battery, a Micro-DGA, an M-PAA, and a flexible solar panel, demonstrating advanced onboard technology.
