India’s Para-Athletes Shine at Paris Paralympics with Record 20 Medals

India’s para-athletes have made history at the Paris Paralympics by winning a record 20 medals, surpassing their previous best of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics. The Indian team has won 3 gold, 7 silver, and 10 bronze medals, with opportunities to win more.

Highlights of the Wins

On Monday and Tuesday, the Indian contingent secured 13 medals. Para-shooter Avani Lekhara won India’s first gold in the women’s 10m air rifle with a personal best of 249.7 points. Mona Agarwal took bronze in the same event.

Manish Narwal won silver in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 with 234.9 points, while Rubina Francis earned bronze in the P2 – women’s 10m air pistol SH-1 final. Preeti Pal won bronze in both the 100m T35 and 200m T-35 races.

Nishad Kumar secured silver in the men’s high jump T47 with a leap of 2.04m, and Yogesh Kathuniya won silver in the men’s discus throw F56. The archery pair of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi clinched bronze in the mixed team compound event.

More Medal Wins

Sumit Antil defended his gold in the men’s javelin throw F64 with a record-breaking throw. Nithya Sre Sivan won bronze in the women’s SH6 para-badminton category, while Nitesh claimed gold in the men’s singles SL3 category.

Thulasimathi Murugesan won silver in the women’s singles SU5, and Manisha secured bronze in the same category. Deepthi Jeevanji won bronze in the women’s 400m T20 final.

Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu achieved a double podium finish in the men’s high jump T6, with Sharad winning silver and Mariyappan bronze. Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar also secured silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s javelin throw F46 event.
