India’s Defence Ministry to Plant 15 Lakh Trees on Independence Day

The Ministry of Defence in India will undertake a massive tree plantation drive, planting 15 lakh trees across the country on August 15, during the 78th Independence Day ceremony. This initiative is part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in the Name of Mother) campaign.

The campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, encouraging everyone to plant a tree as a tribute to mothers. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also participated in the campaign, planting a tree in memory of his mother. He urged people to join the campaign to protect nature and make the movement for environmental protection more effective and dynamic.

The plantation drive will involve the three Services and associated organizations such as DRDO, Defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools, and Ordnance factories.
