India’s Bowlers Shine as They Dismiss Pakistan for 108 in Women’s Asia Cup Opener

In Dambulla, Sri Lanka, on July 19, Indian bowlers, especially Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh, performed brilliantly to bowl out Pakistan for just 108 runs in 19.2 overs in their women’s Asia Cup campaign opener.

After choosing to bat first, Pakistan had a rough start. Pooja Vastrakar dismissed Gull Ferokha for five runs in the second over, thanks to a great catch by Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Pakistan was 9/1 in 1.4 overs.

Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen tried to score quickly but were soon dismissed. Jemimah Rodrigues took a fine catch to send Muneeba back for 11 runs. Pakistan was 26/2 in 3.5 overs.

Ameen and Aliya Riaz managed to survive the powerplay, ending at 37/2. However, Shreyanka Patil broke their partnership, with Jemimah taking another catch to dismiss Riaz for six runs. Pakistan was 41/3 in 7.5 overs.

Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh continued to restrict Pakistan’s scoring. Deepti dismissed Pakistan’s captain Nida Dar for eight runs, and Renuka ended Sidra Ameen’s resistance. Pakistan was 61/6 in 13 overs.

Fatima Sana and Tuba Hassan formed a small partnership, but Deepti ended it by dismissing Tuba for 22 runs. Pakistan was 92/7 in 17.1 overs. Deepti also ran out Syeda Aroob Shah and dismissed Nashra Sandhu, leaving Pakistan at 94/9 in 17.5 overs.

Shreyanka Patil took the final wicket, and Pakistan was all out for 108 in 19.2 overs. Fatima Sana remained unbeaten with 22 runs. Deepti Sharma (3/20), Renuka Singh (2/14), Shreyanka Patil (2/14), and Pooja Vastrakar (2/31) were the top bowlers for India.
