Indian Surfers Secure Historic Quotas for Asian Games 2026

Thulusdhoo, Maldives, August 24: In a significant achievement for Indian surfing, the team has secured its first-ever quotas for the upcoming Asian Games 2026. These quotas, one for men and one for women, were earned based on the ranking points accumulated by Indian surfers in the Asian Surfing Championships 2024.

Kishore Kumar’s Performance

Kishore Kumar, who advanced to the semi-finals, narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals. Despite this, his outstanding performance throughout the tournament ensured that India earned quotas for the Asian Games. Competing in the U-18 Boys category, Kishore finished third in Heat 2 of the semi-final with a score of 8.26. Chengzheng Wang of China scored 10.00 to place second, while Japanese surfer Taro Takai took first place with a score of 14.50.

Other Indian Surfers

Eight Indian surfers competed in four different categories. Harish Muthu also made history by becoming the first Indian to qualify for the Asian Surfing Championships quarterfinals, although he fell short in a hard-fought battle.
