Paris, France – August 4, 2024: Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the Indian Men’s Hockey Team for their victory in the quarterfinals against Great Britain at the Paris Olympics. The team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, won the match in a dramatic shoot-out after the scores were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time. India triumphed 4-2 in the shoot-out, securing a spot in the semi-finals.

During the match, India took a 1-0 lead in the second quarter when Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner. However, India’s Amit Rohidas received a red card for a foul, leaving the team one man down. Great Britain’s Lee Morton equalized before half-time. Despite multiple opportunities, Great Britain couldn’t score in the second half. In the shoot-out, India scored all four attempts, with goalkeeper PR Sreejesh making a crucial save to secure the win.

In their previous match, India defeated Australia 3-2 in a Pool B match. Abhishek and Harmanpreet Singh scored early goals, while Harmanpreet added another in the third quarter. Despite a late goal from Australia, India held on to win the match.
