The award was presented to D Sothi Selvam, Director General of ICC, by Ambassador Fernando Arias, Director-General of OPCW, and Jan van Zanen, Mayor of The Hague. The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the OPCW and the Chairperson of India's National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) were also present.
The ICC, representing over 80% of India's chemical industry valued at USD 220 billion, was recognized for promoting chemical safety and compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention. The award highlights ICC's initiatives like the Chemical Weapons Convention Helpdesks and the 'Nicer Globe' initiative, which focuses on chemical transportation safety.
Alongside ICC, Algeria's National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology of the National Gendarmerie (NICC/NG) was also recognized. The OPCW-The Hague Award, established in 2014, honors significant contributions to the goals of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
