Indian Army and Manipur Police Recover Illegal Arms in Joint Operations

On September 21, the Indian Army, in coordination with the Manipur Police, conducted two successful joint operations in Churachandpur and the fringe areas of Thoubal and Imphal East districts. These operations led to significant recoveries of illegal arms and warlike stores.

First Operation in Churachandpur

A combined team of the Indian Army and Churachandpur Police searched the heavily forested upper reaches of Thangjing Ridge in Churachandpur District. They recovered:

  • Two 9 mm pistols with magazines
  • A single-barrel rifle
  • Two locally fabricated rockets
  • A modified long-range mortar
  • Two modified medium-range mortars
  • Four mortar bombs
  • Nine rounds of 9 mm ammunition
  • 6.2 kilograms of Grade Two explosives
  • Other warlike stores

Second Operation in Changbi Village

Acting on specific intelligence, a team of Indian Army and Manipur Police searched Changbi Village in the fringe areas of Thoubal and Imphal East districts. They recovered:

  • Two carbine machine guns
  • Two pistols
  • A single-barrel gun
  • Nine hand grenades
  • Eleven rounds of small arms ammunition
  • Other warlike stores

All recovered items were handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Additional Security Measures

On September 20, security forces conducted search operations and area domination in vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. They ensured the movement of 176 and 224 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2, respectively, with essential items. Strict security measures were implemented, including 109 checkpoints across different districts, ensuring free and safe movement of vehicles.
