Indian Air Force Airlifts 25 Bodies of Indian Pilgrims After Nepal Bus Accident

An Indian Air Force aircraft has transported 25 bodies of Indian pilgrims who tragically died in a bus accident in Western Nepal. The accident occurred when an India-registered bus, traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu, veered off the road and plunged into the Marsyangdi River.

Details of the Accident

The bus accident happened on Friday at around 11:30 am local time in the Tanahun district. The bus fell about 150 meters into the river, resulting in the deaths of 27 people. While 26 people died at the crash site, one more succumbed to injuries at Old Medical College in Chitwan.

Rescue and Recovery

The Indian Air Force aircraft, which took off from West Bengal, India, flew into Bharatpur city in Chitwan district to airlift the bodies. The aircraft then transported 25 bodies back to Maharashtra, while two bodies were sent to Gorakhpur by road. Autopsies were performed at Bharatpur Hospital before handing over the bodies to Indian authorities.

Officials’ Visit

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, and Maharashtra legislator, Sanjay Shubhakar, visited Nepal to check on the health condition of the injured Indian nationals. They met with the 16 injured individuals undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. Khadse also met with Nepal’s Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to discuss the rescue operations.

Khadse expressed gratitude to the Nepal government and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu for their prompt assistance in the rescue and treatment efforts.
