India vs Pakistan: Exciting Hockey Showdown in Asian Champions Trophy

On September 14, India and Pakistan will face off in the Asian Champions Trophy at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir, China. India, led by ace dragflicker Harmanpreet Singh, enters the match as the table toppers. Pakistan, captained by Ammad Butt, is also unbeaten and holds the second spot in the points table.

Defending champions India have shown great form, winning all their matches so far. They defeated China 3-0, Japan 5-1, Malaysia 8-1, and Korea 3-1. Pakistan, under the guidance of hockey legend Tahir Zaman, has also performed well, drawing 2-2 against Malaysia and Korea, and winning 2-1 against Japan and 5-1 against China.

Despite their on-field rivalry, both teams share a special bond off the field. Harmanpreet Singh said, “I have been playing with some of the players in the Pakistan team since my junior days and we share a special bond with them. They are like my brothers. Of course, on the field, we will go about the match like we would against any other opponent and make sure we keep our emotions in check.”

Pakistan’s skipper Ammad Butt acknowledged India’s strong performance but expressed confidence in his team’s improvement. “India has undeniably played like true favourites in the tournament so far. We will take heart from the matches we have played, and I must say, we have improved in every single game, not conceded cards and have played disciplined hockey. We look forward to doing the same against India tomorrow,” he said.

In recent encounters, India has outclassed Pakistan, including a 10-2 win at the Asian Games in Hangzhou and a 4-0 victory at the Hero Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai. However, Harmanpreet Singh believes past results won’t matter in the upcoming match. “Past results will not matter when we take on a team like Pakistan. They are a tough side and have the potential to bounce back at any stage in the game. We will look forward to a good match tomorrow,” he said.

Other matches of the day include Malaysia vs Korea and China vs Japan.
