India to Host First-Ever Kho Kho World Cup
India is set to host the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in January next year. MS Tyagi, the General Secretary of the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), expressed his excitement about the event, emphasizing its potential to boost the sport’s popularity. Tyagi believes the World Cup will inspire young players and increase Kho Kho’s recognition in India.
MS Tyagi’s Journey and Contributions
Tyagi has a rich history in sports, having coached India’s Kabaddi and Kho Kho teams in international tournaments from 1982 to 1985. He served as the national coach until 1990 and later worked as a Project Officer for the National Institute of Sports (NIS), overseeing the preparation of Indian teams until 2013. After retiring, he was appointed as the director for Rural Development Games by the then Sports Minister, Vijay Goel.
Role in KKFI and Support from Sudhanshu Mittal
Joining KKFI in 2017, Tyagi credits President Sudhanshu Mittal for significantly promoting Kho Kho in India. He appreciates Mittal’s efforts, which have led to the World Cup being hosted in India.

Tyagi highlighted the United Kho Kho League (UKKL) for its role in financially supporting players and nurturing talent. He also praised KKFI’s Sports Science Program for its detailed analysis of players’ physical and technical aspects, aiding in their development.
