India Sends More Help to Myanmar After Typhoon Yagi

New Delhi, India – On Tuesday, Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, announced that India has sent more aid to Myanmar as part of Operation Sadbhav. This operation is a joint effort by the Indian Navy and Air Force to help countries affected by natural disasters.

Details of the Aid

Myanmar, which was hit by Typhoon Yagi, will receive 32 tons of relief materials and 10 tons of ration. The relief materials include generators, hygiene kits, temporary shelters, water purification supplies, and medicines. The Indian Navy is also sending 10 tons of ration.

Operation Sadbhav

In a post on X, Jaiswal said, “Operation Sadbhav continues: India dispatches a second tranche of aid to Myanmar. @IAF_mcc aircraft is carrying 32 tons of relief material including genset, hygiene kits, temporary shelter, water purification supplies and medicines for the people of Myanmar. Indian Navy @indiannavy is bringing additional 10 tons of ration for Myanmar.”

Other Countries Receiving Aid

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar mentioned that India is also sending aid to Vietnam and Laos. The Indian Air Force deployed its C-17 Globemaster aircraft to provide humanitarian assistance in Vietnam, which was also affected by Typhoon Yagi. The aid for Vietnam includes water purification items, water containers, blankets, kitchen utensils, and solar lanterns. Laos will receive 10 tons of aid including generators, water purification items, hygiene supplies, mosquito nets, blankets, and sleeping bags.

Impact of Typhoon Yagi

Typhoon Yagi has caused severe flooding in Myanmar, resulting in at least 236 deaths and 77 people missing. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) indicated that the toll could be even higher.
