India Protests Sri Lankan Navy's Actions Against Fishermen
In New Delhi, India has expressed strong disapproval to Sri Lanka regarding the recent detentions and firing incidents involving Indian fishermen. Two fishermen from Karaikal were injured when the Sri Lankan Navy allegedly opened fire in the Jaffna Sea. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the Sri Lankan Acting High Commissioner to convey India's protest. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reported that 13 fishermen were detained, with five injured, two seriously. Recently, six detained fishermen were released and returned to Chennai.
BRICS Nations and De-dollarisation
In response to US President Donald Trump's threats concerning de-dollarisation, the MEA reiterated that BRICS nations, including India, have no agenda to replace the US Dollar. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized that BRICS decisions are made by consensus. Despite discussions on reducing dollar dependence, there is no policy for de-dollarisation among BRICS countries.
