India Launches e-Sankhyiki Portal for Better Data Management

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) in India has launched the e-Sankhyiki portal on June 29. This new portal aims to improve the management and sharing of official statistics in India.

Key Features of the e-Sankhyiki Portal

Data Catalogue Module

The Data Catalogue Module provides a detailed listing of the Ministry’s major data assets. Users can easily search and download data.

Macro Indicators Module

This module offers time series data of macroeconomic indicators for four key products of the Ministry. It includes features for filtering, visualizing data, and metadata for comprehensive analysis.

Data Safety Measures

The Ministry has implemented several measures to ensure data safety, including:

  • Storing data in the cloud facility of the National Informatics Centre (NIC)
  • Conducting security audits
  • Implementing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for domains
  • Performing Vulnerability Assessments

Guidelines from NIC and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) are followed to maintain data security.

Role of CERT-In

CERT-In, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), supports the portal’s cyber security. It issues advisories, conducts training workshops, and operates platforms like the Cyber Threat Exchange and Cyber Swachhta Kendra. CERT-In has also developed a Cyber Crisis Management Plan and set up the National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC).

The launch of the e-Sankhyiki portal was announced by Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, in the Rajya Sabha.
