INDIA Bloc Leaders Protest in Parliament Over Pro-tem Speaker Appointment
New Delhi, June 24: Leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, protested in the Parliament premises against the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab as pro-tem speaker. They held copies of the Constitution to express their dissent.
Congress Leaders Speak Out
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized the ruling party, stating that they have ignored key issues and the Dalit community by not appointing K Suresh as pro-tem speaker.
Samajwadi Party Joins the Protest
Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, and other MPs from the Samajwadi Party also participated, carrying copies of the Constitution.
Trinamool Congress Voices Concerns
Trinamool Congress leaders Sudip Bandhopadhyay, Kalyan Banerjee, and Sougata Roy accused the Modi government of violating the Constitution. They demanded the protection of constitutional provisions and criticized the government’s unilateral decisions.
Union Minister Responds
Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar defended the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab, highlighting his experience as a senior parliamentarian. He accused the opposition of raising issues due to their increased seats in the Parliament.
