India and Bangladesh Discuss Border Issues in Kolkata

The 20th Inspector General Border Security Force-Regional Commander Border Guard Bangladesh level Border Coordination Conference began in Kolkata on Saturday. This important event brings together the Border Security Forces of India and Bangladesh to discuss various issues related to border management.

Key Participants

The Bangladesh delegation is led by Brigadier General Shamim Ahmed, SGP, SPP, PBGM, Additional Director General, Region Commander, South Western Region, Jessore. He arrived in India from ICP Petrapole on Saturday morning and was welcomed by the DIG of BSF Sector Headquarters Kolkata with a guard of honour. He is accompanied by Brigadier General Khandaker Shafiquzzaman, PSC, Region Commander, Rangpur, North West Area, Rangpur, and 10 other delegates.

The Indian delegation is led by Shri Ayush Mani Tiwari, IPS, IG, BSF South Bengal Frontier. The Indian team consists of 14 members, while the Bangladeshi team has 11 members.

Discussion Topics

During the conference, the two forces discussed various issues of mutual interest for effective border management. These include:

  • Border disputes
  • Cross-border crimes
  • Illegal infiltration
  • Pending development works in the border area
  • Measures to prevent illegal cross-border movement
