Imran Khan’s Party Members Acquitted in May 9 Riots Case

An Anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has acquitted all 18 accused, including workers of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in the May 9 riots case due to lack of evidence. The defendants were charged with obstructing Torkham Road and causing property damage during a protest. The court found no evidence against them.

The arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 9 had led to violent protests across Pakistan. Protests erupted in various regions, including Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, leading to the deployment of armed forces to maintain order. Army posts, including the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore, were attacked during the rallies.

Additionally, a Pakistan investigative agency submitted a supplementary challan in the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. The challan included a list of 24 witnesses and alleged that the couple used corruption to obtain financial benefits, including acquiring a Bulgarian necklace at a lower rate from Toshakhana.
