An accountability court in Rawalpindi has postponed the verdict involving former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, for the third time in the £190 million case. Judge Nasir Javed Rana deferred the decision due to the absence of the accused and their lawyers. Despite issuing two summons for Imran Khan, neither he nor his wife appeared in court.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecution team, media, and court staff were present, but no defense representatives attended. The verdict is now scheduled for January 17. The case, which began with the NAB arresting Imran Khan on November 13, 2023, has seen multiple delays. Initially set for December 23, 2024, the verdict was rescheduled several times.
The trial, completed within a year, involved statements from 35 witnesses and four different judges. The case alleges that Imran Khan and others misused £190 million transferred by the UK's National Crime Agency to Pakistan. As Prime Minister, Khan approved a settlement without disclosing details, intending the funds for the Supreme Court. NAB claims Khan and his wife acquired land worth billions for an educational institute.
