Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Re-Arrested in Toshakhana Case After Acquittal

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were re-arrested just hours after being acquitted in the Iddat case. The couple was sent on a six-day physical remand in a new Toshakhana case.

Details of the Arrest

The accountability court judge ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to investigate the couple. The Pakistani Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification approving a prison term for them under Section 16-B of the NAB Ordinance 1999. For security reasons, the trial will be held inside jail premises.

Acquittal in Iddat Case

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were acquitted in the Iddat case, also known as the un-Islamic nikah case, which was the final hurdle for Khan’s release from jail. They had been sentenced to seven years in prison earlier this year following a challenge by Bushra’s ex-husband, Khawar Maneka.

Ongoing Legal Battles

The couple continues to face multiple legal battles, including allegations of misuse of power in acquiring Toshakhana gifts. The anti-corruption watchdog has intensified efforts to issue an arrest warrant for Bushra Bibi.
