Healthcare Innovation Symposium at IIT Guwahati
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati recently hosted a significant symposium focused on advancing healthcare innovation in Northeast India. Inauguration by Assam Chief Secretary
Ravi Kota, the Chief Secretary of Assam, inaugurated the event, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing India’s healthcare system through self-reliant innovations. He emphasized the collaboration between IIT Guwahati and the Assam Government as a model uniting academia, government, and healthcare professionals.
Future Plans for AAHII
The Government of Assam and IIT Guwahati are working on a new AAHII campus, which will include a 400-bed super-speciality teaching hospital and advanced research labs. This facility aims to reduce import dependency and position Assam as a leader in indigenous medical technology.

Prof. Ashok K. Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, expressed full support for the AAHII initiative, aligning with the vision of “Design in India, Design for the World.” He stressed the importance of reducing reliance on imported technology.

U.S.-based cardiologist Dr. Naba Goswami advocated for stronger partnerships between industry and academia to address rural healthcare challenges in India.
Research and Development
The upcoming AAHII campus will feature six centres of excellence focusing on areas like stem cell research, digital health, and robotics. The super-speciality hospital will offer advanced treatments, including robotic surgery and gene therapy.
