The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati hosted the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 on December 11 and 12. As a nodal center, IIT Guwahati facilitated the software edition of the hackathon, welcoming student teams from across India, including Maharashtra, Telangana, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. Participants tackled 186 problem statements across diverse themes such as Space Technology, Medtech, Agriculture, Smart Vehicles, and more.
Key Highlights
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, emphasized the hackathon's role in fostering innovation and problem-solving among young minds. The National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) presented four challenging problem statements, including AI/ML-based solutions for deep fake video detection and keyword spotting in audio files.
The event featured 20 teams, each with six students and two mentors, working continuously for 36 hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the participants virtually, encouraging them to use technology for real-world solutions and national progress.
Participant Experiences
Rajeshwari Mughilan from Kongu Engineering College shared her positive experience at IIT Guwahati, working on data security projects. Pawan Sharma from IIT Kharagpur and Mahee Agarwal from IIT Jammu also expressed excitement about their projects involving AI and ML for cryptographic algorithm detection.
