ICC’s Cricket4Good Initiative in Dubai
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has partnered with UNICEF to host the ‘Cricket4Good’ initiative, featuring clinics at the ICC Academy Indoor Nets in Dubai. These events took place on October 4 and 5, 2024, and included star players from the Bangladesh and Pakistan women’s cricket teams, who are currently competing in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Empowering Young Girls Through Cricket
Over 100 young girls participated in the clinics, eager to learn from their cricketing heroes. On Friday, the entire Bangladesh squad, led by captain Nigar Sultana, along with Shathi Rani and Sobhana Mostary, engaged the girls in activities to improve their cricket skills. On Saturday, four players from Pakistan’s team, Najiha Alvi, Tasmia Rubab, Sadaf Shamas, and Syeda Aroob Shah, provided personal guidance, teaching focus, perseverance, and game fundamentals.
Promoting Inclusion and Life Skills
The Cricket4Good initiative aims to empower young girls and promote inclusion through cricket. By connecting them with elite athletes, the program fosters a love for the game and imparts life skills that go beyond the cricket field.
Current T20 World Cup Performance
In the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup, both Bangladesh and Pakistan have faced challenges. Pakistan surprised Asia Cup champion Sri Lanka in their opener but lost to India. Bangladesh won against Scotland but lost to England in a low-scoring match. Bangladesh will next face West Indies, while Pakistan will play against unbeaten Australia.
