Case of Farhan Masih
HRFP reported a recent case involving a Christian youth, Farhan Masih, accused of blasphemy by local cleric Muhammad Bilal Khan in Sahiwal. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed, accusing Farhan under sections 295A, 298A, and 7-ATA of the Pakistan Penal Code, which carry severe penalties.
HRFP's investigation revealed that the accusation stemmed from a personal conflict, as Farhan had asked the accuser to stop mocking him. Farhan's family claimed he was forced to quit his job due to false allegations of drug addiction. HRFP assured the family of their support.
Challenges Faced by Minorities
Naveed Walter, HRFP president, stated that minorities in Pakistan face physical violence, property loss, and social exclusion. They have limited access to justice, especially when accused of blasphemy. He emphasized the issues of forced conversions, abductions, and institutional discrimination in education and employment.
Despite constitutional guarantees, minorities in Pakistan continue to face marginalization and threats, depriving them of basic human rights.
