The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has released a report titled "Exodus: Is the Hindu Community Leaving Sindh?" This report highlights the concerning trend of Hindu families migrating from Sindh due to violence, economic hardships, and climate change.
According to HRCP, the state has not adequately protected this vulnerable minority. Many Hindus are leaving due to religious violence, economic struggles, and climate change impacts. HRCP chairperson Asad Iqbal Butt emphasized the underreporting of violence and discrimination against Hindus in Sindh.
Rajvir Singh Sodha, special assistant to the Sindh chief minister for human rights, discussed extortion by criminal gangs targeting upper-caste Hindu families, worsening the law and order situation. HRCP council member Pushpa Kumari highlighted threats to Hindu women, including abductions and forced conversions.
Journalist Sohail Sangi urged the Sindh and federal governments to enhance law enforcement, increase Hindu representation in police forces, and engage in dialogue with local Hindu communities. The report recommends collecting credible migration data, deploying specialized law enforcement units, and strengthening laws against forced conversions and child marriages.
The meeting concluded with HRCP Sindh vice chair Qazi Khizer Habib thanking the attendees.
