Honoring Ratan Tata: Singapore Awards Honorary Citizenship to Late Industrialist
Vientiane, Laos – On October 10, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar paid tribute to the late Ratan Tata, a veteran industrialist, following his conferment of honorary citizenship by Singapore. Ratan Tata, who passed away at 86 in Mumbai, was remembered as a “remarkable person” by Jaishankar, who expressed that his death is a national loss.
Jaishankar, attending the ASEAN summits in Laos, shared his experiences working closely with Tata, particularly during the establishment of the CEO forum with the United States. He noted Tata’s special connection with Singapore, where he began his career.
Ratan Tata served as Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and was later named Chairman Emeritus. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. His remains, draped in the national flag, are at the National Centre for the Performing Arts for public respects, with a final journey planned at 4 pm today.
