Hockey Jharkhand and Odisha Win Big at East Zone Championship 2024
The 2nd Hockey India Sub Junior Women and Men East Zone Championship 2024 took place at Maulana Md. Tayabullah Hockey Stadium in Guwahati. Hockey Jharkhand and Hockey Association of Odisha emerged as champions in the Women’s and Men’s categories respectively.
Women’s Category
In the Women’s final, Hockey Jharkhand defeated Hockey Association of Odisha in a thrilling shootout. The match ended 1-1 in regular time with goals from Shruti Kumari (18′) for Jharkhand and Priyanka Minz (30′) for Odisha. In the shootout, Ankita Lakra, Manjhi Pushpa, and Sandeep Kumari scored for Jharkhand to secure the win. Manipur Hockey claimed third place by beating Hockey Bihar 2-0, with goals from Jerina Chongtham (14′) and Tongbram Lanchenbi Devi (43′).
Men’s Category
The Men’s final saw Hockey Association of Odisha triumph over Hockey Jharkhand in another exciting shootout. The match ended 6-6 in regular time. For Odisha, Mithles Kerketta (19′, 60′), Aklesh Lakra (23′), Subodh Lakra (25′), and Mandeep Kerketta (35′, 49′) scored, while Jharkhand’s goals came from Kiro Sabian (15′, 45′), Nicolas Topno (17′), and Purti Ashish Tani (34′, 46′, 52′). In the shootout, Salman Lakra, Dibit Madki, Arman Soreng, and Mandeep Kerketta scored for Odisha. Manipur Hockey secured third place by defeating Hockey Bihar 13-1, with multiple goals from Loitongbam Kenish, Manimatum Maibam, Athokpam Milan, Lisham Max Singh, Akoijam Malemnganba, and Saikhom Nishi Singh. Abhay Shah scored the lone goal for Bihar.
