Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Announces New Awards for Teachers

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 15: To improve learning outcomes and boost teaching quality, the Himachal Pradesh government is launching the ‘State Award to Teachers and Head of Schools’ scheme. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that this initiative aims to recognize and honor exceptional teachers in the state.

Awards Categories

The scheme will award 24 teachers in two categories: general areas and tribal/hard areas. Fifteen awards will be for teachers in general areas, and nine for those in tribal and hard areas.

Selection Criteria

The selection process will focus on learning outcomes, quantifiable indicators, and educational innovation to minimize subjectivity. The initiative aims to foster interest in teaching, motivate high-quality teaching, and enhance the reputation of educators.

Special Awards

In addition to the 24 state teacher awards, six special awards will be given to teachers who have made extraordinary contributions to innovation and state programs. Eligible candidates include teachers from District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs), Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

Application Process

Teachers who have served up to March 31 of the current year and meet all criteria can apply offline from July 16 to 30, 2024. Applications must be submitted to the Deputy Directors through the concerned Controlling Officers. The District-level Committee will scrutinize applications, and a special evaluation team will conduct spot evaluations with mandatory video recording. Shortlisted nominations will be forwarded to the state level committee, where applicants must present before the committee.

Chief Minister Sukhu reiterated the government’s commitment to providing quality education and facilitating foreign exposure visits for teachers to replicate best teaching practices in the state.
