Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Reports Cloudbursts in Mandi, Shimla, and Kullu

On Thursday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that cloudbursts had occurred in the districts of Mandi, Shimla, and Kullu. As a result, around 50 people are missing, and two bodies have been recovered.

CM Sukhu stated, “Cloudburst occurred today. Around 50 people are missing, 2 bodies have been recovered. NDRF, SDRF, DCs and officials are present at the spot. We have instructed the officials to make all arrangements. We have also sought help from the army. I appeal to people not to go near canals and rivers. The Air Force has been asked to be ready. I will also go to the spot as soon as the weather clears.”

He further mentioned that more rainfall is expected in the next 36 hours and that he has spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who assured all possible help. CM Sukhu also received calls from BJP chief Nadda and Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, who expressed their concerns.

Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma reported that heavy rain alerts have been issued until August 2. He detailed the incidents: in Kullu, 7 people are missing and 11 houses damaged; in Mandi, 1 body found and 9 people missing; in Shimla, 1 person died and 36 people are missing. Overall, 15 houses have been damaged, and one national highway is closed.

The Indian Army has mobilized its resources, deploying three columns, an Engineer Task Force, and a Medical Team to assist in rescue operations in Shimla.
