Hezbollah Launches Over 100 Rockets at Haifa, Israel Responds with Strikes on Lebanon
On October 8, tensions in West Asia intensified as Hezbollah launched over 100 rockets and missiles targeting civilians in the Haifa region of Israel. The Israel Foreign Ministry shared images and stated, “Hezbollah has just launched over 100 rockets and missiles at Israeli civilians in the greater Haifa region, marking a serious escalation in its aggression.”
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that approximately 135 projectiles were fired into Israel, with sirens sounding in Haifa exactly a year after similar attacks began. In response, the Israeli Air Force conducted drone strikes, destroying some of the rocket launchers used by Hezbollah.
Israel expanded its military response by launching strikes on southern Lebanon and targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs. The IDF reported hitting a weapons depot and another Hezbollah site in Beirut, and a drone strike was carried out against a school in southern Lebanon’s Tayr Harfa, where Hezbollah operatives were spotted.
Earlier, rockets from southern Lebanon struck Haifa, injuring at least five people and damaging a restaurant, a house, and a main road. Sirens also sounded in Tiberias, and alerts were activated in the Upper Galilee area after detecting 15 rockets, some of which were intercepted. Israeli media reported at least 10 injuries from the rocket attack on Haifa.
This escalation follows Israel’s airstrikes on Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut, which caused significant destruction and chaos.
