Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging and Disruptions in Mumbai

Mumbai is facing heavy rainfall, causing waterlogging in several areas, including the Andheri Subway, which has been closed for vehicles. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has forecasted more rain and gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph. Vihar Lake, one of the city’s main water sources, has overflowed.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in districts like Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. On Wednesday, local train services were disrupted for 30-45 minutes due to a fallen bamboo structure on the overhead cable system between Matunga and Sion stations.

Commuters are facing significant inconvenience due to these weather conditions, with visuals showing people making their way through the downpours in areas like Vile Parle and the Western Express Highway.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) -: The BMC is the local government body in Mumbai responsible for providing basic services like water, roads, and waste management.
